Whittling for beginners with experienced teacher.
Description
The course is a good introduction to whittling and useful as a CPD activity for forest school teachers and guide leaders. The core of this workshop is the artistic whittling of various projects of your choice. I will show and explain how to use and sharpen carving knives. By the end of the workshop you will have made a number of small projects to take home, together with the skills to continue whittling. My background is in sculpture and creative education. For over 22 years I have been teaching whittling, woodcarving and other three dimensional arts and crafts to adults and children. I love sharing my experience and enthusing others in working with wood. This course is for complete beginners, adults and children. The minimum age is 10 and any young person, up to 18 years old, has to be accompanied by an participating and paying adult. The workshop takes place in my woodcarving studio in South Devon which is set-up for teaching young people and adults. I'll always adapt my courses to the participant's interests. I am offering special rates for group bookings of 2, 3 or 4 people, and I can add new workshop dates to the calendar. Please get in touch via the 'message the tutor' button if you wish to book a private course for your group, or if you have any questions.

With over 20 years of teaching experience I love sharing my skills and learn from my students. My own artistic work is inspired by the ever-changing and evolving forms in nature and the seasons. Animals and the development of plant forms, are a constant inspiration for me. Working wood with traditional hand tools and techniques is a very rewarding experience. Each piece of wood is different and carving is an inspiring conversation with a unique piece of living material.
