Traditional upholstery 1-day introductory course for complete beginners. This 1-day taster is designed as an introduction for the complete beginner. It is for anyone who wishes to try their hand at the heritage craft of traditional upholstery before committing to a longer course. It is also perfect as a gift, as an experience day or group event. We take you through the construction of a traditional seat pad on an antique or vintage chair, using traditional methods and materials. You work side by side with fellow students and get to take home your finished chair at the end of the day. You can then paint or polish your frame at home.

What's included in the price?

1. Antique or vintage dining/occasional chair with drop in seat pad. 2. All traditional materials required. 3. Piece of fabric (we have a large box of fabric pieces and end of rolls (or you can bring your own as long as it is suitable for upholstery). 4. Use of tools and equipment. 5. Expert tuition from AMUSF qualified and experienced tutor.

Cheddar Upholstery School has been running alongside the commercial upholstery & interiors business (Pretty Sitting) at Barrows House in Tweentown, Cheddar since 2019. Both businesses are owned and managed by Jill Humphrey, AMUSF who is an experienced master upholsterer and tutor. We run daytime and evening courses, weekend workshops and summer schools in traditional and modern upholstery as well as soft furnishings and interior design. All our courses are suitable for beginners as well as improvers and are designed to be fun, creative, and educational.
