Textile still life workshop

Description

Still life textile art - a one day fabric collage workshop with Imogen Bittner This course caters for all abilities from complete beginner to the more experienced textile artist and I offer one to one tuition throughout the day as required. My textile still life courses have previously only used the technique of appliqué - the fabrics being attached by an electric or hand machine. I am introducing a collaging technique for those who do not have or do not wish to use a sewing machine. Both techniques will be used simultaneously in each workshop so whether you choose to stitch or to collage, the methods I use to build up a still life will be the same. Making patterns from favourite objects that you bring along, using printed /painted fabrics- layered, collaged or stitched to create a vibrant still life image. For those wishing to sew - no specific skills or sophisticated machines are necessary but please bring sewing machine, scissors and any inspiring fabrics you wish to use although I have a large supply included in the price of the course. For those wishing to use the simple but effective hand technique, (iron-on collage), just bring along scissors and any inspiring fabrics. The workshops take place in my North Dorset studio which offers a safe, light and warm environment with plenty of space to spread out with onsite parking. We are on the ground floor but no wheelchair access unfortunately.

What's included in the price?

Please bring a packed lunch or visit the pub next door; hot and cold drinks and homemade cake will be available throughout the day. Materials (a huge stash of!) and all tools included, but please feel free to bring your own.

Although I graduated with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art (painting) from West Surrey College of Art and obtained an MA Fine Art (sculpture) from the Arts University Bournemouth, I have always enjoyed working with textiles and have done so for more than 45 years. I am a practising artist and exhibit regularly as a member of the salon group of Dorset Visual Arts and Wessex Contemporary Arts as well as in larger collective exhibitions.
