Stained Glass - Sun Catchers (1 day) in the Peak District
Description
Let the sunlight flood in…through your own handcrafted window hanging. Using the copper foil (Tiffany) technique you will create a beautiful stained glass light catcher to take home. This course is perfect for beginners or improvers, teaching how to cut, shape and join glass. Templates are provided or you may wish to develop your own simple design to fit within a 5 inch diameter metal hoop. Add beads and wire to finish and display. Practise basic skills and gain confidence with glass. No previous experience required. Over the day's workshop, you will learn all the skills needed to make Tiffany-style decorations: • Selecting suitable glass. • Scoring and breaking glass to fit your chosen pattern. • Glass grinding. • Applying copper foil to the cut pieces. • Tacking and soldering. • Applying patinas. Tutor: Lin Fletcher Lin has been working with glass for over 20 years, focusing on bespoke pieces, restoration and teaching. Her most recent activities have been with a team of glaziers restoring the numerous windows of Manchester Town Hall. Health & Safety: This workshop involves the handling and soldering of metals (specifically lead, tin and copper). It also requires the use of sharp materials, hot tools and chemicals. Protective goggles, gloves and dust masks will be provided. Whilst every effort is made to keep the studio environment safe and well ventilated, if you are pregnant/breastfeeding or suffer from asthma or dermatitis, for your own assurance, we recommend you seek medical advice before booking this course. Start time: Join us from 9.30am for tea/coffee and introductions. Tuition starts at 10.00am. There are breaks for lunch and a tea & cake mid-afternoon. End time: The class finishes around 5.00pm. • Purpose built studio in beautiful Peak District setting. • Relaxed, creative atmosphere. • 4 - 6 students per workshop. • Open to both beginners and those with experience. • Good fresh food, homemade cakes. • Accommodation on site and nearby if required. • Private groups welcome (minimum 4 people).
