Stained glass mosaic robin stakes

X

Description

In this course you will learn the technique of mosaicing with stained glass on thick acrylic to produce a beautiful little bird stake for your garden. The piece you produce will be robust and frost proof. Initially you will learn simple glass cutting techniques, as well as how to use a glass grinder. You will be taught how to glue your glass on to the acrylic to avoid grout bleed, and will be taught how to grout your final piece. You will be provided with a pre-cut and drilled acrylic base as well as a metal stake. You will be able to choose the shape of your bird from two possible shapes provided. There will be design templates provided, but you are welcome to bring your own ideas or we can work on one together on the day. Bird books are available. Initially everyone will be taught about how cut glass and how to approach the project. Each process will be clearly demonstrated. After that you can work at your own speed. We will be aiming to grout in the late afternoon, but if you would prefer to work on the glass cutting and gluing elements all day, you will be sent home with grout and detailed instructions on how to do it at home. Small groups will enable one to one help to be available all day. The studio is well ventilated, and has a HEPA filter. Please bring an apron and a packed lunch (you will not be able to purchase one close by).
