Description
Create your own unique pieces of abstract slate art to hang in your home or garden. Unlike traditional mosaic work, you use the natural beauty of slate to create interesting and beautiful wall sculptures. Each piece of slate is totally unique in its colouring and surface texture. We have a range of slates sourced from all around the world, plus some gorgeous light grey slate studded with sparkling pyrite from mystical Tintagel in Cornwall. To complement the slate we have a huge colour range of Italian glass (Smalti) and other glass, stones & materials, which will bring your wall sculptures to life and add a 'pop' of colour. You can also include lengths of the healing crystal Selenite which refracts light in the most mesmerising way, and add a touch of magic with a piece of Dichroic glass. For a touch of eye catching luxury, you can now add inserts of pure silver, copper and bronze. These are raised away from the artwork as they are attached by pins rather than pushed into adhesive. These have an additional cost depending on size. Your day starts with a hot or cold drink whilst Jo describes what will happen during the workshop, and shows you the wide range of materials available. Some of the materials have evolved from the sculpture workshops Jo runs, making this experience totally unique. Jo then demonstrates the whole process giving tips and tricks. You will then work on the first of two pieces you will make during the day. The backing board (with hanging fixings) will have been prepared in advance for you. Jo will be on hand to help with design, cutting and general advice. There will be wall hanging space so you can occasionally pop your work in progress up onto the wall to help decide on any changes or additions. After lunch you will work on your second piece. For people who have been on one of these days, you will have the option to make one large piece (rather than the 2 smaller pieces) on another workshop. Dates have been set so there are two one day workshops within three days of each other (eg at Friday and Sunday), so if you book on both days you can learn the process on the first day (achieving two small pieces) and make a larger piece on the second day. If you wish to do this, please check availability for both dates in case one has become fully booked. Currently the dates set are the following Friday and Sundays: 15th & 17th March, 28th & 30th June, 27th & 29th September and 6th & 8th December. If the date does not show on the Craft Courses booking calendar, then it will be fully booked. The modern studio is set in beautiful quiet countryside on the Norfolk / Suffolk border, where you can relax and enjoy this creative and unique experience. It has air conditioning for extremes of weather during the winter and summer, plus large sliding doors for the more temperate days. Jo's two very friendly Cockapoo dogs are always ready for a walk around the grounds! The day is full of fun, yet also very absorbing. Absolutely no experience is required. You will leave with two pieces of unique art to hang immediately, plus a list of materials used. Kits are also available to take away. These are only for workshop delegates as you choose your unique pieces of slate etc whilst at the workshop. Please note, the studio is in a rural location without any public transport, so you will need a car to reach the studio. We also run 1 and 2 day Sculpture Workshops and sell unique Sculpture kits (ideal for presents!). Press on the More from this maker and 'more listings' to see the full range.

Welcome 😃 I'm Jo Garden. I call myself a 'facilitator' as my joy is enabling people of any skill to achieve something they did not expect, plus have time away from the everyday stresses of normal life. My sculpture & slate mosaic workshops are broken down into small stages which result in amazing sculptures and works of art regardless of your artistic ability (honestly). If you purchase a kit, there is a full length video of me making the sculpture which you can watch as many times as you wish. If attending a workshop, my peaceful studio is tucked into the garden surrounded by trees and wildlife making it a very tranquil and stress busting. I run several workshops a month but am often booked up for months in advance. If you book a long way in the future, I do make contact if I have cancellations and can move you forward. Please do not hesitate to message me if you have any questions. Jo x
