Silver clay 2 day course for beginners - Lori Ridgway
Description
This course is also available online No previous experience is necessary as this 2 day course takes you through how to use all 3 types of silver clay, the clay, the paste and the syringe. It also teaches you how to set a fireable stone in 3 different ways. At the end of the course, you will come away with at least 3 pieces of wearable jewellery The course is held in my fully equipped 400 year old converted barn in the Staffordshire countryside. I am a fully qualified Art clay silver instructor, and am currently a silver clay demonstrator for Cookson Gold in Birmingham Day One You will learn (or refresh your learning) about handling the clay including rolling out and texturing, along with how to set a fireable stone in clay ready to add to your pieces. I can help guide you in what you would like to create, but you will have plenty of freedom within the techniques to design your own pieces. Using the silver clay paste, you will learn how to make a solid silver leaf from a real leaf which can be picked from around the studio, or you can bring one from your home if you have a special one you would like to use. Please note, not all leaves are suitable so please discuss with me if you would like to bring your own Most of the day will be taken up in designing these pieces and preparing them for the kiln. Whilst your pieces are drying, you will also design the shape of your filigree piece, and make the template in preparation for day two I will kiln fire your pieces after the class so they are ready for you in the morning of day two. Day Two On day two, we will polish and shine the pieces that were fired over night, and also complete the filigree piece using the template from day one. This introduces you to the Silver clay syringe, and explains how fine detail can be added to pieces. We will fire the filigree piece around lunchtime so you can have time to complete it before the end of the day The main part of the day will be in learning finishing techniques for your pieces, and looking at adding colour and antiquing to the pieces. Once the pieces are complete, you can add them to the chain and earwires to make a complete set to take away with you If you choose the online course, it will take place via the best media for us both, and can include zoom, freeconferencecall, facetime, skype etc. If you don't have the equipment required to complete the online course then a pack is available for a refundable deposit. if you have the equipment, I will send you the materials usually included in the course and a box to put your completed pieces in to return to me for firing.
What's included in the price?
You will also get a gift bag with a sterling silver chain, and a pair of sterling silver ear wires so you can complete some of the pieces Tea and cake will be included, but you will need to bring a packed lunch on the day, or there are a few sandwich shops 5 mins driving from the workshop If you do get carried away (easily done) and want to make more or larger items, extra materials will be available on the day, as will extra chains if required If you choose the online course, it will take place via the best media for us both, and can include zoom, freeconferencecall, facetime, skype etc. If you don't have the equipment required to complete the online course then a pack is available for a refundable deposit. if you have the equipment, I will send you the materials usually included in the course and a box to put your completed pieces in to return to me for firing.
