Exploring Rush Weaving – Small Round Lidded Basket

X

Description

A two day course exploring the gentle craft of weaving with rush. You will take home a sweet and very useful small round lidded rush basket. To make this lovely rush basket we will be working off a mould/block and using check weave, waling, pairing, and a simple rod border. The rush used is sustainably harvested on the Somerset Levels. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and if you have done some rush weaving before you may be able to experiment more with the design. Jane will gently guide you through the process to enable you to weave your own beautiful and bespoke rush basket to take home. Rush is a wonderful material to weave with as it is softer and much gentler on the hands than willow. All tools and materials provided. Please wear warm old clothing. Tutor: Jane Welsh Jane is our guest tutor from Devon, usually visiting West Wales to teach at Denmark Farm twice a year. Jane is a experienced and skilled basket maker and very attentive teacher. Her knowledge and love of rush and willow is inspiring.
