PROFESSIONAL TRAINING: MODULE 5 *PLEASE NOTE: To attend this course, you must already have some experience with industrial machines and be able to operate and set up a walking foot independently, or have attended our "Module 3 – Industrial Machine Training" LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PATTERN DRAFTING AND BASICS OF SMALL LEATHER GOOD MAKING This is the fifth module of a series designed to provide thorough, professional training in leatherworking and accessory making. Each module has been carefully designed to equip individuals with key skills for starting a career in this sector, broadening their industry knowledge, or embarking on their own journey with solid foundational skills. The lesson has been structured to help you understand the principles of pattern making for accessories from scratch, which largely differs from pattern making for clothing. You will learn pattern making terminology and how to correctly use the patterns you create to cut the leather. During the class it will be explained how the develop a pattern based on the type of finishing and shape desired and you will construct and sew some basic leather cases. By doing so, you will gain insights into the technical aspects of leatherworking, including preparation, marking, cutting, gluing, reinforcing and more. You will work with different types of leather, reinforcements, and linings, creating finished items as well as your own patterns to bring home with you. You will receive valuable handouts and curated lists of leather and tool suppliers for ongoing reference. SUMMARY OF TOPICS COVERED DURING THE CLASS: – Basics of pattern making – Leather preparation, pattern placement, and leather marking – Leather cutting, gluing, and reinforcing – Small leather goods construction and sewing BY THE END OF THE TUITION, YOU WILL HAVE: – Understood the principles of pattern drafting for accessory making and created some finished patterns – Learned how to use your patterns to correctly cut your material, minimising waste and using the best parts of a hide/skin – Constructed and completed up to three finished leather cases/glasses cases (depending on your personal abilities the quantity might change) – Worked with a variety of tools for pattern making and leatherworking, as well as various types of leather – Developed essential leather craft skills such as preparation, marking, finishing, cutting, and more – Obtained a basic understanding of the differences and best uses of reinforcements, stiffeners and stabilisers. This tuition will require up to 7 hours to complete. We aim to provide customised and high-quality tuition services, and by limiting the class size to 6 students, we can focus on each participant’s needs. Depending on the number of attendees, the ability of participants and the group’s pace, the syllabus may be covered in a shorter time frame. For example, in the case of three attendees, the programme could be covered in approximately 5 hours.
