PROFESSIONAL TRAINING: MODULE 10 LEARN HOW TO HAND SEW LEATHER GOODS: DEVELOP YOUR SADDLE STITCHING AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO CONSTRUCT AND SEW COMPONENTS AND GUSSETS *PLEASE NOTE: This course is not suitable for total beginners. You will either have some experience in hand sewing, using hand tools, cutting and finishing leather or have attended the first part of this course: MODULE 9 – INTRODUCTION TO HAND SEWING This is the tenth module of a series designed to provide thorough, professional training in leatherworking, pattern making, sewing, and accessory making. Each module has been carefully designed to equip individuals with key skills for starting a career in this sector, broadening their industry knowledge, or embarking on their own journey with solid foundational skills. During this lesson, you will learn how to proficiently hand sew leather and refine your technique to handle more challenging projects. You will explore the construction of complex leather goods components such as handles, gussets, darts, and more. You will learn how to create and use basic patterns when working on hand-stitched elements and produce a series of samples to take home with you. The class will alternate between theoretical lessons and practical exercises, allowing you to create personalised samples for your own reference. You will also receive valuable handouts and curated lists of leather and tool suppliers for ongoing reference. SUMMARY OF TOPICS COVERED DURING THE CLASS: – Hand sewing / saddle stitching techniques – Leather goods components and elements – Pattern making for hand sewn goods BY THE END OF THE TUITION, YOU WILL HAVE: Refined your hand sewing technique and learned advanced sewing methods – Understood the basics of pattern making for hand sewn goods – Created basic patterns to take with you for your own reference – Created samples of basic leather goods components: handles, gussets, darts, tabs – Developed confidence in sewing more complex shapes and constructions This tuition will require up to 7 hours to complete. We aim to provide customised and high-quality tuition services, and by limiting the class size to 6 students, we can focus on each participant’s needs. Depending on the number of attendees, the ability of participants and the group’s pace, the syllabus may be covered in a shorter time frame. For example, in the case of three attendees, the programme could be covered in approximately 5 hours.
