Join us at Nettlecombe Craft School for a hands-on pole-lathe turning workshop, where you’ll create your own bowl to take away. This foot-powered method requires focus and energy, offering a rewarding journey into traditional woodworking. You’ll learn material selection, wood preparation to turn on a pole lathe, building on safe and effective tool handling skills and finishing techniques by creating your own unique piece. Emphasis will be on safe technique, process, and the joy of working with green wood. Open to all experience levels, this workshop is an opportunity to learn anew or deepen your skills under the guidance of experienced turner Shannon Berry. Shannon brings her expertise to the workshop in a relaxed and approachable way, making learning this heritage craft both enjoyable and easy to remember. What You’ll Learn: - Material selection and wood preparation for blanks. - Safe and effective tool handling techniques. - Step-by-step process of turning a bowl on a foot-powered pole-lathe. - Finishing techniques and bowl aftercare. Set in our peaceful woodland surroundings, this day requires a reasonable level of fitness, akin to hiking a hill, with ample time for breaks and demonstrations.
