Mosaic birds - realistic indoor mosaic hangings
Description
If you have some mosaic and glass cutting experience or have completed on of my other workshops, and would like to develop your skills further on a larger indoor piece, then this is the perfect workshop for you. We will quickly brush up on glass cutting skills as well as how to use a glass grinder. We will discuss the best use of textured and coloured opaque glass to achieve a painterly effect. We will look at how to blend colours to achieve a certain level of realism. Individual help will be given for your particular design. A large amount of coloured glass will be available for your use. You will be provided with a pre-cut MDF base in the shape of your choosing. You will be emailed three weeks before the class asking for your design idea and an appropriate image. Your chosen bird design will then be cut out for you in advance ready for the day. We will spend the Saturday planning, cutting and glueing the glass. We will be aiming to have completed most of the glasswork on your bird by the end of the day, although there may be a bit of time available first thing on Sunday. Small groups will enable one to one help to be available all day. On the Sunday we will clean up the mosaiced piece and grout it. You will be taught the tricks of the trade to make this process easier. We will also discuss the choice of grout colour and look at the pros and cons of various colours. You may even choose to use more than one grout colour. By Sunday lunchtime you should have a beautiful piece of artwork to take home. Please bring a packed lunch and an apron. Course runs Saturday 10am-4pm, and Sunday 10am-2pm.
