Cooking spoon making/carving - Group booking - basic Green Woodworking course
Description
Make a wooden cooking spoon using traditional green woodworking skills. These are the skills used before we had power tools when people would take their limited tools into the wood and make all sorts of useful items. This course is to make a long flat kitchen spoon out of wood from a log. The workshop is run at the beautiful Golden Hill Wood in a meadow with views of the forest where the wood is sourced that over looks the black mountains. In this course you will learn: Sourcing and selecting wood Basic green woodworking or ‘bodging’ theory How to cleave out a blank from a log How to use a shavehorse and drawknife to shape into a spoon. Finishing the spoon with a carving knife and special spoon knife to create the bowl. Tips on oiling. “ Celi has a kind and gentle presence combined with a sense of deep knowledge and connection to the subject. I will also be available to answer any other green woodwork related questions. Any teenagers 14-16 wanting to attend must be accompanied by an adult. Private group sessions are available on request. Maker
Celi has been working with green wood since 2010, they were self taught and then took on an apprenticeship in teaching the craft, woodland management and green building in 2017. Since then they have worked in forestry, making and selling their craft, and teaching. As well as setting up the project at Golden Hill Wood. Golden Hill Wood is run by myself, Celi and my partner, Reyna. It is a woman owned project and we endevour to use female and minority gender teachers wherever possible. We also engage the public through volunteer days and projects to aid the management of the land and help people to develop skills.
