Handbuilt Pottery: Candlestick Holder with Sgraffito
Description
In this workshop you will slab build a candlestick holder, adding pattern and colour to the surface using slips and sgraffito. In the first part of the workshop you will be shown the fundamental techniques required to slab build; leading you through the use of templates to create slab built pieces, rolling, sticking, and smoothing clay, focusing on creating the right sized holder for the candlestick, as well as having time to create personalised features such as handles. In the second part of the workshop Pascale will explain the use of slips and how they differ from glazes, and introduce sgraffito. You will be taught to use coloured slips and sgraffito technique to decorate your piece. Sgraffito allows for the creation of pattern with bold colour. You will be given a candlestick to fit your holder as well. You will leave this workshop with good introductory knowledge of ceramics, and be inspired to do more beyond the workshop!

Unfortunately, we do not have our own designated car park, however there are plenty around Cirencester. The nearest short stay car park is The Brewery Car Park which is approximately 2 minutes away and is a council run pay and display. This car park has several disabled parking spaces too. Sheep Street Car Park is a longer stay car park 3 minutes away, it is a cashless car park facilitated by Pay by Phone. Full details of all car parks and pricing can be found on Cotswold District Council Website.
We pride ourselves on smaller class sizes, so you get plenty of help from the tutors. Maximum 8-10 students per class.
