Description
Join ceramic artist Rhi Jarman, to create porcelain jewellery with sprig (press) moulds and stamps. In this workshop, Rhi will supply a range of handmade sprig (press) moulds of natural forms such as shells and fossils for you to create your own pendants for necklaces, earrings and much more. You will be using porcelain paper clay which transforms into fine, beautiful jewellery for daily use. You will begin by rolling the clay and pressing it into a variety of textured stamps and moulds to experiment, before creating final pieces. Rhi will demonstrate various techniques to add colour and decoration with underglaze, slips and oxides. You will also have the opportunity to create your own clay sprig moulds and stamps, a selection of which will be bisque fired following the class for future use with pottery. A choice of your final jewellery pieces will be glazed (if requested) and stoneware fired following the class for you to collect and transform into necklaces, earrings. Some wire hooks and jump rings to fasten jewellery will be provided, but chains/earring hooks are not. Meet your tutor: Rhi is a creator of unique sculptural ceramics, decorative homewares and wearable art. She is inspired by the fauna, flora and fungi that play vital roles in balancing natural ecosystems.
What's included in the price?
All ceramics materials are included. There will be a small supply of wire hooks and jump rings but necklace and earring fastenings are not provided. Please bring an apron, or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! Please remove jewellery and tie long hair back. You may wish to bring your own sketch book, and some objects to create clay sprig moulds/stamps – natural items such as shells and fossils work very well for this. Please note that sprig moulds created in this session will not be useable in the same session – they will need to dry and be fired first. Firings take 6 weeks from the date of the workshop, you will be contacted as soon as your work is ready. Please collect and take it home as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have our own designated car park, however there are plenty around Cirencester. The nearest short stay car park is The Brewery Car Park which is approximately 2 minutes away and is a council run pay and display. This car park has several disabled parking spaces too. Sheep Street Car Park is a longer stay car park 3 minutes away, it is a cashless car park facilitated by Pay by Phone. Full details of all car parks and pricing can be found on Cotswold District Council Website.
We pride ourselves on smaller class sizes, so you get plenty of help from the tutors. Maximum 8-10 students per class.
Of course, and for some classes we may ask you to do this. Please don’t worry, if this is the case it will be clearly shown on the booking pages and in your confirmation emails.
No, we ask that students either bring their own or wear clothes they are happy to get messy in.
You are welcome to bring a lidded bottle of water with you but we kindly ask that you do not bring food or drinks into the studio.
