Description

This fantastic six week beginners pottery course runs from The Crafty Potter Studio in the beautiful village of Heskin, Lancashire. This beginners course runs every day except Sunday & Monday and is for adults aged 16+. The course must be completed within 3 months & you can alter the day or time each session, making it great for those that can't commit to set days. The class lasts however long it takes to make your item, to a maximum duration of 2.5hrs. The course is a great introduction to clay. The tutors use pre set projects to help guide you through the various methods of clay building. Session 1: Coils You will learn how to coil clay and assemble a pot. The coiling of pots is just a term for the method of construction & they can be finished in many different ways. Week/Session 2: Potter's wheel You will be shown how to throw, centre and pull a pot on the potters wheel, then have time to have a go by yourself. You will then explore altered shapes, using your wheel creations. Week/Session 3: Slab work using a slab of clay. You will learn how to prepare and assemble clay using the slab method, either joining a single slab or multiple to make your creation. Week/session 4: Pinch pots & modelling In this week we explore making and joining pinch pots, along with how to shape, attach and sculpt clay to make an animal in clay. Week/session 5: Go it alone In this week you'll explore your own ideas, making 1 clay creation, using the skills learned in the first 4 weeks. This session isn't tutor lead but help & support is on hand. Week/Session 6: A glazing session You'll explore glazes and glaze your 2 favourite items from the course. Once you have attended this course there is the option of becoming a potter member, where you can further explore your own ideas & hone those pottery skills. The Crafty Potter studio is based within Heskin shopping village, a unique retail and leisure destination featuring over 40 unique shops and businesses. With free parking, we’re a perfect destination for you to make a great fun day out. The course makes a fabulous gift for all occasions.
