Description

This engaging four-hour millinery workshop provides an opportunity to master the art of fascinator making, equipping participants with the techniques needed to design a stunning headpiece. The workshop encompasses a range of skills, from trimming and shaping feathers to crafting sculptural sinamay twists. Participants can also opt to create unique, origami-inspired trims, adding a modern and sophisticated flair to their fascinators. The session begins with an introduction to the basics of fascinator construction, emphasizing the selection of appropriate materials and essential design principles. Participants will learn how to trim and shape feathers to achieve beautiful, flowing lines, exploring various feather styles and techniques to manipulate them for maximum visual impact. By the end of the workshop, each individual will leave with a completed fascinator that is distinctly their own, showcasing their creativity and newfound skills. What is sinamay? Sinamay is one of the most popular hat-making foundations in the world. It is woven from the processed stalks of the abaca tree, a banana palm native to the Philippines. Abaca fibre is three times stronger than cotton or silk, and a fabric made from 100% abaca can last for over 100 years. As a result, sinamay holds a very firm shape. Because it is a natural fibre, it holds colour beautifully.
