Description

This immersive two-day felt hat course provides the essential skills to block, shape, and manipulate wool felt into a custom-designed hat. Participants can choose to create a classic Fedora, stylish Trilby, timeless boater, or another unique hat style, allowing for creative freedom in design. Throughout this hands-on course, participants will explore the fundamentals of hat making, guided step-by-step through each stage of the process. The course includes the following key components: - Preparing and blocking felt: The process begins with selecting a hat style and preparing the felt. Participants will learn how to properly stiffen the felt and use steam to stretch and shape it over a wooden hat block, creating a firm and beautiful base for their design. - Wiring and finishing techniques: Next, participants will learn how to wire the hat to retain its shape, along with methods for seamlessly curving and stitching petersham ribbon into the design. Invisible stitching techniques will be mastered to add a professional touch. Trimming and decorating: Once the basic structure of the hat is complete, the focus will shift to trimming and decorating. Participants will experiment with different trims, fabrics, and embellishments to add personal flair to their creations. By the end of the course, participants will have gained invaluable millinery skills, instilling confidence and the ability to create hats independently. Each individual will leave with a beautifully crafted, custom-felt hat ready to wear or showcase. This course is suitable for anyone interested in millinery, from beginners to those looking to expand their skill set.
