Description
Make and decorate your own clay bell in this 2hr workshop. These pretty little Dorei bells or Tsuchi Suzu are Japanese clay bells and have been part of Japanese culture for thousands of years from religious ceremonies to being used as protection/good luck charms to merely bringing joy from their gentle sound. In this workshop you will be introduced to different clay types, then guided through all the steps to hand build a circular Dorei Bell and decorate it with underglaze in a design of your choice. Following the class, your bell will be fired and clear glazed, a hemp rope for hanging will be attached and then posted out to you, approx. 3 weeks or you can pop by to collect if you are local. I have been an artist for over 25 years with a specific interest in Japanese art and culture. This led to a fascination with Japanese ceramics and now I enjoy creating unique hand built and decorative pieces that are rooted in traditional Japanese techniques with a specific interest in Kurinuki and Kintsugi. I love the meditative effect of these traditional crafts and the unique and often surprising results they produce. My little studio/workshop opened in 2021 and is situated in a converted stable in the grounds of Wolvey Hall, a Grade II listed building. The perfect place for creativity.
