Bookbinding - make a hardback journal and leather notebook - two session workshop
Description
Next dates: Saturday 15th and 22nd March 2025: 1.30 - 4.30 pm or Saturday 19th and 26th July 2025: 1.30 - 4.30 pm In this two session workshop you learn how to make two types of book - a small hardback journal and a leather notebook. You'll learn a range of bookbinding techniques and at the end of the two sessions you'll be able to take home two completed books. In the first session we'll make the inside of both books. In between sessions I will trim the pages of the hardback journal. In the second session we'll make the covers and complete both books. All materials will be provided, except if you'd like to bring one sheet of unfolded high-quality wrapping paper with a multi-directional design (a design which works whichever way you hold it up) for the journal cover. I'll have paper you can use for the cover if you don't have anything particular you'd like to use. Regarding the leather journal: If you'd prefer a non-leather alternative this can be accommodated. This friendly and informal workshop is ideal for those who have attended the 'handmade books' workshop but is also suitable for beginners. There will be a maximum of four students and a relaxed pace. The price is inclusive of both sessions and materials.
What's included in the price?
All materials for use during the workshop. (Unless you'd like to bring a sheet of high quality wrapping paper in a design of your choice to use for the hardback journal.) Handouts of everything we cover during the workshop. Hot drinks and biscuits.

The Leaf Press is the studio name of surface pattern designer and papercut artist Suzy Dobson. I create colourful designs which I sell on stationery, wedding invitations and pictures. The Leaf Press was originally a bookbinding studio but has evolved over the years so that papercut style designs are my speciality. I have been teaching adults since 2009 and am very excited to have started offering workshops in my own studio in 2023. Students have described it as a 'bright, calming space' and with a maximum of 4 students you can be sure of a friendly and relaxed learning experience where you can work at your own pace but receive help when you need it. I look forward to welcoming you to a workshop and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

FAQs
Please only book a place if you're confident you will be able to attend - it makes workshop planning really tricky when the number of students changes, especially if at short notice.
If you are unable to make your workshop date and it is more than 4 weeks ahead, you can cancel or rebook on another date/another workshop. Please contact:
- Craftcourses if you wish to cancel or change workshop.
- Me if you want to book on to the same workshop on a future date.
No changes can be made for workshops happening in less than 4 weeks but you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend, etc.
Yes! Please ask about workshops for your event or workplace. I can run a simplified version of my paper cutting or handmade books workshop.
The workshop price includes materials, refreshments in the form of tea/coffee and cake/biscuits and handouts explaining everything we've covered during the workshops.
Unfortunately my studio is in a building without a lift, so you'll need to be able to climb a flight of stairs.
Workshops are held at my studio which is in the centre of Loddon. Loddon is mid-way between Beccles and Norwich on the A146.
Loddon is served by the X22/X21 First Bus which runs from Norwich to Lowestoft.
My studio doesn't have parking but there is a Pay & Display car park opposite the building. Alternatively you can park on the street but please be careful - it's quite a narrow and very well used road!
Please check the description for the workshop you are interested in. All materials are usually provided but sometimes I give you the option to bring paper, material, etc, so you have a design you'll love!
Workshops have a maximum of 4 students, so you can work at your own pace. They are designed to be friendly and informal so it should be a relaxing and stress-free experience!
