Description
Learn the ancient craft of basket weaving during this two-day workshop. Come and join Amy Cox, and learn to weave a willow foraging bag with a strap, perfect for harvesting the abundance of fruit in our hedgerows! You will learn a range of weaving techniques including how to make a catalan base, how to pair, wale, rand, and attach a strap. You will also learn about material preparation & selection and about some of the materials you can forage and harvest for yourself. Most importantly, you’ll have your very own handmade basket to take away at the end of the weekend. We will use locally grown willow in a range of colours, and foraged fibers such as bark and rush. If there's time, we’ll end by taking the baskets for a forage and learning about some of the wild food and medicines in the hedgerows. Previous experience of basketry or being practical/ crafty is an advantage for this course. If you have a sharp pair of secateurs do bring them along Nb Basket making can be tough on the hands so not suitable for anyone with arthritis
