Deer Skin Tanning and Making a Leather Bound Journal Course - Jane Robertson

X

Description

On this course we will spend a day learning about how to make leather from a deer skin, starting with removing the hair from a fresh hide and finishing the day with you softening and oiling the leather, which will become your book cover. (The tanning process is much longer than 1 day, so we will be showing every stage and also producing some stages that we ‘prepared earlier!’) You will learn the fundamentals of tanning a skin which you can apply to future tanning projects back home. On day 2 we will spend the day sewing and creating a beautiful journal cover from leather, with the possibility to incorporate different colours and textures of leather into your own creative design. You will go home with a leather bound book that will be hard wearing, long lasting and unique. NB-This book cover will also be removable, should you wish to buy the same ‘blank’ book in the future and continue to use your cover.
