Derek Jarman's cottage in pen and paint with Sam Scott
Description
Join us for a special Thursday morning watercolour workshop with guest artist Sam Scott, a renowned children’s book illustrator and fine artist. This session will explore the art of line and wash, using expressive line drawing combined with delicate watercolour washes to capture the iconic charm of Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage, a beloved landmark nestled on the shingle shores of Dungeness. With Sam’s expert guidance, you’ll learn how to develop strong compositions through line drawing before applying fluid brushstrokes to bring depth, texture, and atmosphere to your painting. You’ll explore techniques for capturing the weathered character of the cottage, its rugged garden, and the surrounding coastal landscape — with its striking contrasts and atmospheric light. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this workshop will give you the skills and confidence to experiment with this beautiful and versatile approach to watercolour.
