Upcycling for kids (8+) in East London - holiday classes

Easter holiday up cycling classes at the fabulous and well stocked Cheekyhandmades' studio. 4 hours of fun, techniques, creativity and projects running both on 9th and 11th April. Taught by the lovely Suzie, who is a milliner and upcycler and will be known to many locally as the fabulous woman who ran Make Do And Wonder on Wood Street for many years! A very welcome addition to the Cheekyhandmades' family. Using their own clothing or something from our textile waste bin, kids will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity and become designers of their own unique piece of clothing. Kids will learn skills to repair and customise their own clothing with an aim to buy less and use what we already have. We will use techniques such as applique, patch making and couching to expand hand sewing skills, and machine sewing (depending on previous experience) Trims, extra material, buttons and all manner of other frippery will be supplied. Before the first class we will ask you to fill in a detailed contact form. Please note we would love to know in advance if your child has any needs such as dyspraxia or sensory processing issues, so we can take this in to account. All ND and neuro-typical kids welcome, it is just good for us to be able to tailor things slightly. Please note your child will need to be able to reach the sewing machine pedal sitting on a normal chair. If they are slightly too short, please let us know (via the 'message the tutor' button) and we can try to improvise, but we will need to know this in advance

What's included in the price?

Everything! We work from my garden studio which has all the machines, threads and over lockers we need. I do have cats, so if you are allergic you may need some antihistamine (which I also have). Parking is controlled so be aware of this. I can sell you a voucher. I am also near buses and not far from the tube and overground. My studio isn't accessible to those with mobility issues as it is down steep-ish outside stairs into my garden. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
