A Basket of Many Colours

X

Description

Brian and Nicki love teaching a variety of willow weaving courses in the beautiful Surrey Hills near Dorking. The basket of many colours is made from a variety of willows that have been grown in our own field and bought from our suppliers Musgroves. It is a joy to watch the colours change as the willows dry out. The course starts with a cup of tea or coffee on arrival and an introduction to willow, where it is grown, its preparation and the different varieties you can weave with. We then take you through the process of making the basket step by step. Working from a 39cm wooden base that we have drilled in preparation for you, we insert the uprights learning a basic trac border. The different varieties of willow are then woven in using a three rod wale, tapering in or out to make your desired shape. Topped off with a different trac border and leather handles you have created a beautiful, functional basket The course involves some standing and requires some strength in your fingers and hands. It is not recommended if you have arthritic hands.
