Quilt in a Day, one-to-one course with Amanda Jane Ogden
Description
If you have always wanted to have a go at making a quilt, this course is for you! This is a one-day course, for beginners, tailored to you with one-to one attention from the tutor. You will get up to 8 hours of individual tuition (including chats during the breaks) to introduce you to quilting and patchwork. The course will teach you all the basics for making a quilt: choosing fabric, cutting, joining pieces to make blocks, joining blocks to make rows, adding a border, quilting, trimming and finally binding a quilt. The course is specifically designed to build your skills bit by bit over the course of the day. You will leave with a small quilt as a sample and with the skills and information to go ahead with tackling a full-size quilt in the future. You will start the day with a carefully curated selection of eight fabrics, chosen by the tutor according to your own colour preferences. The course is taught in the modern, well-lit, purpose-built studio next to the tutor's home in Ramsgate, Kent. There is an efficient heater for the winter and a fan (if needed) for the summer. You only need to know how to use a sewing machine before you come. This is a full course, taught in a relaxed way. The teaching is tailored to you (as the only learner that day) so that you get the most out of it. There will be lots of additional information, with plenty of hints and tips given throughout the day. After the course you will receive notes and additional information supplied by the tutor via email. Please check the reviews for this course to see how other learners have found the experience. Timing: the course starts at 9.30am and will continue at your pace, usually finishing somewhere between 4.30 and 5.30pm depending on the learner. There are short breaks mid-morning and mid-afternoon and a slightly longer break at lunch-time. Experience has shown that these timings work well. Please contact the tutor via Craft Courses messaging if you have any particular difficulties with these timings. Health and Safety: All surfaces and equipment are cleaned and sanitised before your arrival. There is a washbasin available for you to wash your hands. Tutor information: Amanda Jane Ogden is a qualified and experienced teacher of Textiles with a BA in Textiles & Surface Pattern and a PGCE in Textiles. She designs fabrics and writes quilt patterns for magazines internationally and also for sale online. Amanda regularly makes quilts to commission and is listed as a Maker in the Crafts Council Directory. Her small business is called 'Amanda Jane Textiles'.
