"Find Your Inner Potter" ceramics and pottery day with Geraldine Francis

Have a day to immerse yourself in making in clay. A one-day clay making workshop is a perfect activity if you wish to get together with friends to do something creative or you are a beginner who wishes to get the ball rolling on a new hobby. Looking to reconnect with clay after a break? This day will refresh your skills and get you started again. A lot of information and making is packed into these sessions which are guaranteed to be both informative and fun. As well as working in clay Geraldine will introduce information on clay types and their uses and the make up of clay so you understand the material you are working with. You will be expertly guided through four projects whilst learning the essential building techniques for working in clay: Pinch forms; Slab built boxes and creative coiling as well as having a throwing demonstration from your tutor and then being guided gently through the throwing process to produce your own thrown pot. Geraldine will also introduce you to surface decoration using coloured slips so you can decorate and colour your pots. The well equipped studio provides everything you need for the day, but if you wish you can bring your own apron and hand towel.

Maker
Geraldine Francis is a ceramacist who runs tutored classes at Parnella House an 18th Century House, run by White Horse Arts in the historic market town of Devizes. She has many years of experience in teaching ceramics and works from the studio as well as in the community, bringing the opportunity to work in clay to many people. From those in care homes to children's nurseries, Geraldine delivers ceramics and pottery sessions to suit all ages and abilities. She offers tuition in all aspects of working in clay including sculpture and throwing on the wheel. Geraldine is from a fine art ceramics background and her own work is on display in the studio and includes thrown work as well as sculpture and tiles. If the studio venue is not suitable to your needs as you are a large group or have members of your group who require access for wheelchairs etc, Geraldine is happy to arrange an alternative venue.
