Description

This is an exciting two-day intensive course exploring the basics of plaster mould making. This is a great opportunity to get an overview of what is possible for mould making and casting in a variety of materials, making this course ideal for complete beginners and makers with some experience who want to further develop their casting skills. This course will cover two techniques of plaster mould making. You will create a single use plaster waste mould from a clay model, and a reusable plaster piece mould taken from an existing object. By the end of the course you will have a concrete cast from your plaster waste mould and a wax cast from your plaster piece mould.

What's included in the price?

Day one You will model a quick clay sculpture and create a plaster waste mould from this to cast in fast set concrete. Waste moulds are single use as they are destroyed during the process. Participants then have the option to cast a small object they have brought in, or select something from around the workshop to make a plaster piece mould. Piece moulds are made of more than one interlocking parts and can be reused for making multiple casts. Day two You will finish the plaster piece mould and have the option to use this to make a wax cast. The concrete cast from the previous day will be chipped out of its plaster waste mould and cleaned up. When selecting an object to bring in to cast, make sure that it is a simple three dimensional shape, about handsized or slightly larger and preferrably something with volume. It can be made of wood, stone, plastic, metal or ceramic. Please bring the object on the first day
