Description

Charcoal has been made for thousands of years, and this is your chance to learn the art and science of charcoal making. The day will explore the history and tradition of charcoal making, as well as doing a charcoal burn in a barrel, from loading the wood to lighting and managing the burn. We'll also look at our larger retort kilns, where you can get hands on with emptying, grading and bagging.

The workshop takes place over one day, running around 10am to 4pm, on our site in Stirlingshire. Tea, coffee and snacks are provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch. You are welcome to cook over the fire.
