Description
An opportunity to make your own armchair in the woods from material harvested in the wood at the beginning of the course. The work is done using hand tools and traditional techniques. We work to a standard "Welsh stick chair" pattern with a steam bent arm bow, and a comb back. There is scope to make your own design; please discuss your ideas with the tutor. This is a busy few days, and you will come away from it with an heirloom chair to be proud of. No experience necessary, beginners welcome, as coaching is given at all stages. The tutor is forestry graduate Maurice Clother; a bodger (pole lathe turner) with loads of experience; having taught green woodwork since 2001. The venue is the woodland workshop, situated in the woods deep in the woods in Herefordshire. The workshop is equipped with plenty of shave horses, pole lathes and tools to enable learners to make traditional Windsor furniture. Camping is available on site, please enquire. Enjoy this ancient and absorbing craft, coached by an experienced artisan tutor, and take the fruits of your labour home with you at the end of the course!
