Description
This two day introductory option offer more time to kick start your woodwork skills and knowledge. We can cover the information from the one day course but then build on it by making a small item. This course is aimed at beginners but I also have many experienced woodworkers attend. That is because it is an opportunity to revisit foundation skills, discuss tool options and pick up tips. This can often help you overcome barriers and increase your accuracy and efficiency. The small groups allow maximum tuition levels. This is also a great stepping stone for our intermediate courses where you can really get into cutting a variety of joints. You may just want to try a new craft, do something different for relaxation or even start a career change. Bill’s ethos is based around the joy of hand tool woodworking and learning skills to make furniture and decorative objects. On this introduction weekend, you will be taken through the foundation skills of woodworking, this will include tool selection, accurate marking out, hand-tool techniques and timber knowledge. On day one, you will cut a woodwork joint and have the opportunity to try different tools. Bill will start the day going through the foundation knowledge over a cup of tea, then talk you through the bench set up and tool kit. Then he will take you through the process step by step. Then you can start a small project and complete this on day two. The course is run by a qualified tutor in a safe and friendly atmosphere. The workshop is well equipped in a relaxing location and Bill aims to make the course days enjoyable and rewarding. Bill is fully qualified from City & Guilds through to Masters Degree. Please feel free to message Bill with any questions you may have.

Maker
I am a qualified & accredited cabinet maker and furniture restorer. I have a passion for traditional crafts and teach various aspects of making & restoring. I also write for woodwork magazine 'Quercus' and for 'Woodland Heritage'. I feel that our health & quality of life is enhanced by working practically, making and learning new skills. At a time in society, when consumerism has taken hold, we throw too many things away and do not appreciate materials or nature. We must make better and restore more. We need more relaxing workbench time and less screen time!
