Description
This one day course is for people who like the idea of working with wood but have no or little experience and are unsure of the names and usage of both handtools and machinery. Attendees will learn how to identify and use selection of tools including Bench plane, Block plane, Shoulder plane, Rebate plane, Moulding planes. Chisels, Gouges, different Saws, Hammers, etc. It will also cover marking out using Squares, Mitre squares, Marking gauges, Cutting gauges and Mortise gauges. Guidance will also be given as to the best types and makes of tools to buy and pointers as to where to purchase them. You will also learn how to set up and use woodworking machinery correctly and safely and this will include Bandsaw, Pillar drill, Router, Mortiser, Chop saw, Table saw, Planer thicknesser, Sander, Scroll Saw and Lathe. This course will give you a good grounding to advance onto my other courses such as Furniture Restoration, Tool Tuning & Sharpening, Cabinet Making and Making Wooden Joints. All tools and materials will be provided. You are welcome to bring along your own tools for appraisal. You should wear workshop friendly shoes i.e. not open toed sandals or canvas shoes. I recommend that you wear an apron or other protective clothing - Course Aprons available for £18. There will be a maximum of 6 students on this course.
