Description
Learn Scottish woodcarving traditions in the forest at Inshriach, close to Aviemore. Perfect for complete beginners. You will learn how to select the right wood, safe use of tools and how to finish your item. You will spend half a day learning to be confident with the carving axe and knife (the main tools of this activity) whilst making a butter spreading knife. With expert tuition from Wooden Tom, you will be guided to safely use hand tools such as a knife and axe to create your own Highlands kuksa cup, or whisky quaich, to take home. This is a great course to learn many of the grounding skills in one day which are transferable on to other carving projects. Skills learned: - Using an axe to accurately cleave wood. - Correct use of the carving axe to rough out the shape of your butter knife. - Safe use and cutting techniques with the carving knife. Tools used: - Carving axe. - Saw. - Carving knife. - Mallet. At the end of the day there will be a chance to buy some of the tools you have used if you like.
