Description
What is glass fusing? Glass fusing is a process where glass pieces and decorative elements are fused together at high temperatures in a kiln. Depending on the process you choose you can make many different projects from light benders to waves, lanterns, jewellery to tea lights. What will I learn? • Cutting glass • Designing a simple fused glass piece • Assembling a fused glass piece for firing What can I make? We are not prescriptive in what you can make. So long as it fits in our kiln, and can be made in the time allowed you are good to go! In a 2 hour workshop we are fairly focused to get you cutting and making right from the start, so the list below gives you an idea of what’s achievable in the time available. However, if you have a specific idea in mind let us know and we will advise if we can make it in the time allowed. Choose from 1 of the following to make on your workshop: • 2 x 10cm square coasters • 2 x small light catchers (approx. 10cm x 5cm) • 1 curved tea-light catcher • 1 waved tea-light catcher • 1 small dish / bowl (approx. 15cm x 15cm) • Christmas decorations • Jewellery set (e.g. Pendant & earrings) All the items that you make will be yours to keep. Once the item/s has been fired we will notify you it is ready. We can arrange postage of the item/s, or if it's more convenient, you can come and collect it. Most items are ready within 2 weeks, however, this can often be sooner. Workshops are run Thursdays through Sundays inclusive. We tend to be booked 2 to 3 months ahead so please bare that in mind. Many of our customers book a 'crafty day-off work' with the added benefit of feeling they are enjoying it more because they are not at work or eating into their weekend time. How many people will be on the course? We keep the number of delegates small, between 1 to 6. We do not mix people who do not know each other. When you book if you are booking for yourself or a group of friends/relatives, those people will be the only ones on your session. Small groups give you maximum tutor time and a relaxed atmosphere in which to be creative. Jill and John are your tutors. They both hold industry recognised professional training qualifications. This means not only do they know their subject, but more importantly how to share it with others in a form that is easy to pick up and in a fun and enjoyable way.
What's included in the price?
• Use of all tools and equipment in the glass studio • All the materials required to complete your piece • Up to 2 firings in the glass kiln (typically we will tack fuse or fully fuse your piece on one firing, then fire again if you wish to ‘slump’ the piece into a shape on a former) • Hot and cold beverages, biscuits and often cake will be available throughout the day (we are a 5-star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)
