French Polishing workshop full day with Rob Cain

Description

With a full day course, you will learn to fully restore a piece of furniture, from prep to finish. You will also learn valuable tricks of the trade, including making a fad, learning to rubber and how to disguise scratch/ring marks. A great experience and a chance to learn the Ancient Art of French Polishing. This art will help you to with basic furniture restoration skills that you can use on all your furniture at home. It's a craft that's great for the soul, and will certainly bring out your own personal artistic flair. I have been restoring for over 20 years and my father for over 50. I've appeared on many TV programmes, and loves to share my knowledge. These classes are new to the Craft Courses page and are very personal with only two people per class. I will be on hand to show you everything you need to know. Everything is provided, please ask if you are wanting to bring a piece to work on. Hope to see you soon. Many thanks Rob Cain

"If you fancy a new hobby that doesn't cost the earth (I have since bought everything I need to get started for under £70) then this is the course for you. Rob is an excellent and very knowledgeable teacher and encourages a hands-on approach. You 'do' all the processes. He is also very interesting to talk to about 'the craft'. I had a wonderful time learning how to turn some pretty awful looking wooden table tops into things of beauty with a mirror-like finish. Only one warning - you'll be drawing horizontal figures of 8 in your sleep afterwards You'll have to go on the course to find out what I mean. Rob also supplies a very good cup of coffee."

He gives you confidence to continue on your own but is also happy to answer any questions. He is enthusiastic and instils that in the participants- so much so I’ve rushed out to buy the necessary stuff and have a project lined up! It was the best 4 hours I’ve spent on a mindful activity and the ambiance of the studio set at the back of his shop, the herbal tea and if you are lucky sticky gingerbread all helped to make it a thoroughly enriching experience!
