Create a Bonsai hands-on experience

Description

This two hour, fun, creative experience is ideal for groups of friends, work colleagues, hen parties or family get togethers! A voucher also makes a perfect special and unique present. Find your inner artist by creating your first ever bonsai. No experience of gardening, bonsai or sculpture is needed, just a willingness to have a go and be amazed at what you can achieve. As you collect your glass of Prosecco (or soft drink) on arrival, Julia will greet you and take you on a tour of the garden and her bonsai collection in progress. She has grown many trees from seed or cuttings and explains her enthusiasm for creating bonsai rather than buying them ready-made. After a short demonstration, you can choose your tree and use your new skills to style and repot it before taking it home to keep and nurture. Julia will provide helpful hints and tips for caring for your tree. Guests are encouraged to work together and compare progress and successes. The experience is very informal in a calm friendly environment.

About Me, Bonsai and Streamside Trees I love Japanese gardens and always wanted to learn how to create a Bonsai Tree myself. It came as quite a surprise when I discovered it was something I could achieve with enthusiasm, dedication, and a little instruction. My garden at home has played a significant role in the way I now share my passion for bonsai with other people. My husband and I bought our home partly because it had a little stream running the length of the garden and we could see the potential to turn the space into something special. It took several years and a lot of work, and our garden is now one of 3,500 included in the National Garden Scheme. Part of the work included establishing a nursery area where I grow trees to make into bonsai. The nursery and my enthusiasm for this art form is why I started Streamside Trees; to offer people the opportunity to create their very own bonsai. My interest has extended to helping other bonsai owners who want to learn more about caring for and nurturing their trees. I now run Bonsai Workshops to help them too. My passion for all things Oriental has another element: Dragon Boat racing. I have been enjoying this colourful sport for over 20 years and had the privilege to be part of the GB Ladies team in 2015 when we became World Champions. My enthusiasm for the sport continues and I now coach the over 50s GB Ladies Dragon Boat team. I get so much enjoyment from coaching. That is reflected in the way I have developed my bonsai experiences and workshops. It’s hugely rewarding to see the smiles on peoples’ faces when they see the results of their efforts.
