Description

Bush Craft Knife Making Course This is a brilliant opportunity to experience the amazing process of knife making and you will leave with your very own handmade bespoke bush craft knife that will serve you for a lifetime. You will be guided through every stage of the day by Bladesmith Dave Brearey of Hand Forged Yorkshire. Your experience will take place in my workshop in a forge in Horbury, Wakefield. This course covers every aspect of making a bush craft knife from start to finish using the stock removal method. After a short safety talk you will choose your handle material from a selection of stabilised wood. Your knife will be made from high carbon steel and as part of your experience your knife will come with a sheath so its safe and field ready. I will teach you how to use the variable speed belt grinder to shape your knife and bevel it. We will do some initial prep work on your handle before moving onto the heat treating process to harden the steel. Once we have your knife tempered and cleaned up we will epoxy the handle on and leave it to set while you enjoy a well earned rest. Following your break I will show you how to shape the handle by hand sanding to produce a result that's both comfortable and looks great. Finally we will move on to sharpening your knife to ensure it performs as well as it looks. I am always happy to answer any questions you have. The course will cover:- - Use of belt grinder to shape and bevel your knife - Heat treatment - Tempering of your knife - Blade finishing & sharpening - You will fit a bespoke stabilised wood to complete your knife build. - Leather sheath This course is up to 5 hours depending on ability. You must be 18 to take part in this experience. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and bring plenty to drink as there is no drinking water available on site.
