Beginners table loom weaving: 2-day Intensive workshop
Description
Learn how to set up a table loom and design and hand-weave your own cloth in our studio in the historical village of Writtle in Essex. In this 2-day creative hand-weaving workshop you will learn how to design and plan a warp, set up an 8-shaft loom and weave a selection of samples using a variety of techniques. This is an in-depth, intensive workshop and you will come away with all the technical knowledge required to start weaving independently. Suitable for complete beginners or those requiring an in-depth refresher. Each student will have use of a dedicated 8-shaft Ashford table loom, or have the option to bring their own. Maximum two participants allowing plenty of personalised tuition. Sat/Sun Workshop: 10-5pm Tues/Wed Workshop 9.30-4.30pm Includes a short break for lunch. Alternative weekend dates/times can be arranged as well as mid-week options. Please send a message. Accommodation: If you live some distance from Writtle, then maybe you'd like to consider staying overnight. There are plenty of options in Chelmsford, including an air bnb room just over the road from the studio in Writtle - please send a message if you need advice. Day 1 Focus on how to design your cloth using a fine merino wool yarn and calculate a warp using colours of your choice. Close guidance on all the processes required to set up your loom, from using a warping mill to threading the heddles. By the end of day 1 your loom will be set up and ready to start weaving. Day 2 Weaving all day. You will learn how to read a lifting plan and be introduced to classic weave structures as well as to more complex, comntemporaray designs. You will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of different yarns & colours. You will go home with a selection of samples or completed piece of fabric to display or make a functional item from. Pamela Print is a textile artist with 20 years experience in designing woven textiles within industry and her own hand weaving practice. She is a selected member of the Crafts Council and Design Nation and regularly exhibits in London.
