Beginners' Stained-Glass Course, 2 days

X

Description

This two-day course gives you an introduction to the traditional method of stained-glass making. This course in traditional method of stained-glass construction will give you an insight into this ancient craft. You will be fully guided through the process and given lots of tips, tricks, insight, and appreciation of stained-glass window-making. The course will start with an introduction to the art of stained glass, the design, and how we ‘paint with light’, including the equipment and tools used to do this. You will quickly move on to the practical aspect by learning how to score and break glass. This will be followed by practice cutting glass to a design until you're ready to start cutting the coloured glass for your main project. You can either use one of the designs provided or bring along a design of your own. There will be a full demonstration of the process of constructing a panel and at each stage and we will discuss the tools and techniques being used. Work will be focused on building and finishing your stained-glass panel by leading, soldering and cementing your design piece which you'll finish in time to take home. The course takes place in and around the purpose built oak framed craft barn at Stanwick Lakes which is managed by Rockingham Forest Trust as an environmental charity. Stanwick Lakes is a protected Nature Reserve and a Wetland of International Importance, covering 750 acres of open space with seven miles of paths, a perfect inspiration to crafters and makers. During your lunchtime you can enjoy the onsite cafés and visit the heritage museum or sit by a lake and watch the wildlife. About your tutor: Your tutor for the day is Jo Turner, a heritage stained-glass maker, who has many years of experience making and teaching within the adult community learning environment. Jo also offers a two day Medieval glass painting workshop and half-day glass sun-catcher copper foiling workshops on various dates during the year at Stanwick Lakes. This class is suitable for complete beginners and is limited to five participants. Testimonials: "I thoroughly enjoyed every stage of the 2 day beginners stained glass course. Jo, the tutor, is very skilled and knowledgeable and explained every step really well. I am now a very proud owner of a beautiful stained glass panel I made. I would like to further my skills and start getting into this at home. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in learning this beautiful skill. Very well organised and in a beautiful setting."
