Description
This course introduces beginners to the fun and rewarding craft of marquetry in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. It runs from 10-1pm on Thursdays for 12 weeks (with a one week break for school half term). We will look at a range of traditional and modern marquetry techniques incorporating not just wood but metals, mother of pearl and more. It is all done by hand with fine saws or scalpels. Materials and all tools are provided. There will, in future be a second course for those who have attended the beginners course and would like to move on to more challenging projects/ exercises or design their own work. About the Tutor: Phil is a BAFRA (www.bafra.org) accredited furniture restorer with over 20 years of experience. He also teaches furniture conservation to MA level at West Dean College near Chichester (www.westdean.ac.uk) His marquetry experience covers it's restoration as well as the creation of original work and teaching at various levels including beginners.
