Beginner or Intermediate Woodworking Full Day Course - Saturdays
Description
Hope Woodwork has a dedicated teaching area within a fully equipped woodworking environment in Eastbourne. We offer a beginner or intermediate level of woodworking course, depending on your level of experience. For a Friday-Saturday combo, you could trial the beginners course on Friday, stay (not included!) at a local hotel or BnB in the Sunshine Coast of England and then go on to the intermediate course on the Saturday. Contact us via the 'message the tutor' button to discuss or if you have any other questions about the course. Both courses are hand-tools only; it’s truly back to basics to develop the skills to do woodworking the traditional way. At either level, you jump straight into making woodworking joints and progress through a structured programme guided by one of our experienced supervisors. You will get to mark, plane, chisel and cut your way through the day. The beginners course focuses on the basic joints, which include but not limited to half-lap, bridle, through tenon, T-dovetail, stopped housing joints. The intermediate course incorporates extending the beginner-level skills to tackle the double tenon, single dovetail, row of dovetails, carpentry tie half lap joints and more. For those who show real flair, you could also attempt more complex systems such as the housed rabbeted oblique scarf splice or the Sumi Yoshi double tenon joints, though you might need an extra day to complete them, they are advanced. Each course last approximately 6.5 hours with a half hour lunch break. We provide tea, coffee and biscuits throughout, but you will need to bring your own lunch. There are many shops and restaurants close by. The beach is a few minute’s walk away, with Beachy Head, the Seven Sisters and South Downs National Park close to Eastbourne. Free and paid carparking can be found locally, but there is no parking available for the premises. All proceeds from this course go to supporting our charity’s mission in helping marginalised and vulnerable adults who are out of work improve through woodworking towards a stable life and potential employment.
