'Art of stained glass painting' 1 Day Taster - Oldbury, Birmingham - with Jamal Rafay at Stained Glassic
Description
CraftCourses dates are flexible but a final date must be confirmed with the tutor. I usually have few slots available, please select 'message the tutor' to get in touch for date availability of places. This course is suitable for those who want to learn the art of stained glass in a friendly manner. Learn how to paint stained glass windows, in the company of a small relaxed group and for some time-out in the homely, informal setting of Jamal Rafay’s artist studio! A one day crash course covers, introduction, design for stained glass, introduction to medium, materials, drawing, glass cutting, 1 layer of kiln fired glass painting. If you are interested to go further in a particular aspect of the craft for example, glass painting or drawing, then I adapt a tailor-made coaching approach to assist your own needs. No previous stained glass experience is necessary. A maximum of 2-3 participants per workshop in winters. Group workshops bigger than 3 participants are organised only in summers. Running workshops in small numbers allows a more personalised learning approach and environment. I am a professional stained glass artist. I have been making stained glass professionally from my studio in Birmingham, UK. I've been into art for the last 26 years and in stained glass for the last 17 years. Before becoming a freelance artist, I have worked at John Hardman Studios (est. 1838) as stained glass designer. Now, I produce hand painted stained glass from my own little studio “Stained Glassic’’ (est. 2011) in Birmingham, UK.
What's included in the price?
The course content depends on your requirements. A basic introduction to some of the advanced stained glass techniques can be covered in the workshop. The beginners will learn the essential stained glass skills: from design, drawing, glass cutting, painting and so on. All equipment and materials provided to use during the course. Please do bring along with you any (practical) ideas/sketches that you would like to use and if possible any glass/sample that may have some special meanings to you. I will provide you a glass piece of about approx 7-8 inch squares, circles or rectangles or fragments. This is for a one day workshop and to learn glass painting skills, to paint. In painting workshops, glass is fired at the end of the session for a later collection. Please be aware the process of kiln firing takes some hours, so the finished piece can either be collected on a later day or I can also arrange a delivery at cost. But you are most welcome to take it with you, unfired on the same day. I have plenty of designs, patterns and colourful glass pieces and all required glass tools! I also provide gloves and aprons. But you can always bring your own preferred or required materials to get the most of it. Please do bring a packed lunch - I'll also provide tea, coffee and I can offer some cake or fruits according to the weather and availability! :) Please arrive by 8:55 am for a 9.00 am start... and I'll have the kettle on!
