Fused Glass Workshop - Tea Light / Votive Candle Holder
Description
This workshop is at an introductory/intermediate level. It will be accessible for people with no experience of glass-fusing, but can still provide a good challenge for those who have tried glass-fusing before. You will create a pair of votive/tea-light candle holders, starting with a pre-cut squares of clear glass. After an intro (or refresher) about the processes of cutting and shaping glass, you will decorate your clear glass using small pieces of sheet glass, frit (crushed glass) and stringers (long strands of glass). Making your project(s) will probably take between 1½ and 2 hours, depending on how ambitious and dexterous you are. After the workshop, your flat pieces of glass will be carefully transported to my studio for their first firing, which will fuse the decoration onto the clear base. I will then return the glass to the kiln for a second time, slumping it over a mould to create the final curved shape. Within about a week, your art will be ready for collection (or I can post your art to you for a small extra fee). The typical group size is 4-5. The maximum group size is 8 and the course will only run if there are at least 3 bookings. It’s fine to book a place on this workshop for well-behaved children aged 9+ as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult. This workshop will be held at Broome Village Hall, DY9 0HA. This offers a light and airy space, with plenty of room to spread out if needed. There is wheelchair access and the adjacent car park has plenty of space for the size of group. Broome is a beautiful little village near to the Clent Hills, with lots of countryside walks and pubs if you are planning to include the workshop as part of a full day out. If you would like to try a larger project, or one with more difficulty, why not look at my Advanced Botanic workshop? I am always happy to run workshops for a group of friends. Please get in touch.

Glass Art Designs is run by me, Beckie Cresswell - I personally teach all of our courses. I have always been interested in nature and the natural environment. After A-levels I studied Biology at university and then went on to be a secondary school Science teacher for 20 years. In my free time I've always enjoyed trying different crafts. When I tried glass fusing, I knew I'd found a craft that I loved. After completing a few more courses, I decided to buy a kiln myself. After lots more learning, experimenting and improving, I set up Glass Art Designs. I've been making and selling glass art ever since then and my work has been shipped all over the world. I'm new to CraftCourses.com but I'm certainly no novice at helping people to learn in a fun environment. I'm delighted to be able to share my passion for teaching with my love of fusing glass!
