Wheel throwing can be exhilarating and offer instant gratification, adding some interesting challenges to your learning journey. To be able to use a potters wheel to create clay objects is a fascinating skill. A person can instantly see the outline of a design as they learn to throw. This course is for mixed ability learners. If you are a beginner, then you will learn from scratch. If you are already know throwing, we will focus on developing your skills further. Classes will take place at Woodley Hill House (Network vineyard church), which has a well equipped studio with natural daylight. There is ample parking space on the grounds of the church. What will you learn: * You get an in-depth understanding of throwing skills. * You get to develop: wedging, kneading and preparing clay skills for throwing. * Centring. * Pulling a pot to create height. * Understanding shape formation and impact of clay manipulation on a form on potters wheel. * Turning/trimming. * You will learn in a well equipped pottery studio with professional equipments in an unhurried pace. How is this course different: * The course aims at serious learning in a fun and calm environment. I will share my experience and learning of more than 25 years of throwing on the wheel. * Learning a skill over 4 days back to back creates a stronger understanding of the process and skills. These long format class structure allows you to practise your skills with focus. Course expectations: * Access to pottery books for reference. * You get 4 full days of learning: 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of April. * You will learn to design and develop various objects on the pottery wheel. * Students can pick 4 final works, which will go into bisque firing (cost included in the course fee). * An extra glaze firing will be charged at £25.00 for 4 objects within 1kg each. Your work will be glazed with basic coloured glazes. * I will inform you once the fired works are ready for pick up from a predetermined location (either from my own studio or Woodley Hill House). Please expect at least 4-6 weeks for firing. Important note: The course is limited to 7 spaces only. Course outcome: * At the end of the course, a student will be able to make objects on potters wheel independently and confidently. * Correct use of vocabulary for throwing on potter’s wheel, use of tools and equipment. * Understanding of clay’s temperament in throwing and how to work in tune with it. * Make large or small objects with proper techniques. You will receive further details on the course after enrolment.

What's included in the price?

Included in the cost are following: - Materials, tools (for use only during the course), equipments & studio space. - 5 teaching hours everyday (for 4 days). - 1 firing. - You take your best 4 works with you. - Light refreshments and tea, coffee are included. Not included in the cost: - Tools (to take home). - Lunch - Travel or overnight stay cost (if applicable). - Second firing (glaze firing) will be charged £25 for 4 pieces (each weighing no more than 1 kilo).
