Sustainable Notebook Making – Two workshops in One Day
Description
A fun day exploring notebook making using simple and sustainable techniques. This is two workshops in one and you will take home with you at least two unique hand crafted notebooks. Workshop 1: Simple Book Making – without glue or sewing. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create a charming little book—no sewing or gluing required! The pages are folded from a single sheet of paper, and the cover, complete with a spine, is crafted using copies of vintage book end pages and card stock. Using a clever folding technique, you’ll assemble your book, without the need for any special bookbinding tools or supplies. This workshop is perfect for beginners to the world of book making. Nina will guide you step by step, teaching you how to cut and fold the pages and prepare the cover. Once you’ve learned the technique, you’ll be able to make more of these little books using materials you already have at home. During the class, you’ll also be able to create your own set of templates, so you can continue making these adorable books on your own. Workshop 2: Create a sustainable notebook/sketchbook from recycled packing paper. Get creative and make your own unique sketchbook or notebook using recycled materials. While thinking about ways to be more resourceful and finding solutions to live a more sustainable life, have you ever thought of creating a notebook or sketchbook out of papers that you would normally put into the recycling? In this relaxed workshop, Nina will guide you through the process of binding a unique sketchbook/notebook using packaging paper, paper bags, tissue and wrapping paper. Reusing packaging paper (yes, that crinkled brown paper from your deliveries!) can help you get past the blank-page freeze and spark new ideas. In addition, you’ll have created a unique hand bound notebook from free materials that you would have ended up in the recycling. As part of the process, you’ll learn the basics of bookbinding, including the 3-hole and 5-hole pamphlet stitch. This workshop is perfect for beginners, with plenty of tips and tricks shared along the way. Once you’ve made your first handmade notebook, you’ll be hooked. Your tutor: Nina Vangerow, an artist living in rural Wales, leads welcoming workshops in mixed media, bookbinding, journaling, ink drawing, and mono printing. Passionate about making creativity accessible, she helps beginners build confidence in their artistic expression. As a certified coach, Nina also supports individuals in overcoming creative blocks and shaping a more fulfilling, authentic life through artistic practice. She believes that creativity is a powerful tool for self-discovery and well-being, helping people reconnect with their passions and bring more meaning into their daily lives.
