Stained Glass Patchwork with Gail Lawther Art Nouveau Roses or Tulips
Description
Stained glass patchwor: Art Nouveau rose or tulips. Charles Rennie Mackintosh is an important part of Scotland's heritage, and everyone knows his classic rose designs. Fewer people, though, have interpreted the gorgeous sinuous tulips pattern he created as a textile design – but now's your chance to do your choice of the rose or the tulips! These wall-hangings are done in stained glass patchwork; even if you've never tried the technique before, you'll be astonished at how quickly the design comes together. Stitch them in soft pastels, in striking brights, or in your own choice of toning fabrics to match your own decor. If you're wondering, the rose design is a bit more straightforward than the tulips, but both are suitable for all levels of stitcher, including beginners. Using the Macintosh signature rose as inspiration, Gail has created the designs in various different colourways, using a mixture of real and imitation silks and also cotton fabrics, but as ever you can use whatever fabrics and colourway you like; they look very good in batik fabrics, too. Just ensure that the fabrics are reasonably firm (eg cottons, silk dupion etc). Whatever colourway you go for, choose a colour of bias binding that complements it. You will need a sewing machine for this class and it is advised that you do your cutting before the day. Requirements will be sent upon booking. There will be a break for lunch between approximately 12.30 and 1.30. There is a coffee shop on site. Attendees at our classes are visited by coffee shop staff regularly throughout the day to take any orders. Anything consumed during your day is sold at 10% discount. As well as a large choice of hot and cold drinks, the menu comprises savoury choices including sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and soups. For those with a sweet tooth, there is a selection of cakes and scones made in house with gluten free and vegan options.
