Sketching birds and nature from observation
Description
Art therapy, brain training, relief from depression, reconnecting with nature and Mother Earth meditation or just learning how to sketch from life with X-Warner Bros animation artist. Free but will accept donations. Meet at Stappenhill Gardens and occasionally Branston Water Park Burton every Wednesday evening from 4pm till sunset, to sketch swans or whatever you want to. Sketching animals from life is one of the best ways to lift depression and reconnect with nature. I’ve been sketching wildlife outdoors for some years and can pass on some helpful tips and advice to get you started so you can sketch from life anywhere. The best way to approach this is intuitively, switch off your controlling brain, get into the zone and have fun. Paint for you, no one else. Being by water and seeing the birds antics can only lifts your spirits, and it’s spectacular if we see the sunset there. Every Wednesday weather permitting except for Winter months. Usually too cool but contact me if you fancy braving the elements anytime or if you can’t make Wednesday afternoons see if we can arrange to meet-up.
What's included in the price?
Bring your own materials and equipment, drawing board, a portable chair, an umbrella if rain threatens and suitable, warm, outdoor clothing. Maybe fingerless gloves? Bring any medium you would like. I recommend a pencil darker than 2b if you are just drawing or if using watercolour I can recommend a block of Jackson’s watercolour paper (cold-pressed (not) 300gsm). Good in all weathers and takes a fair bit of punishment. Binoculars are also useful as is bird food...... not bread if possible. Please be aware this event is by sometimes very fast flowing deep water so participants must be responsible for their own safety and any children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Maker
I worked on animated film productions for companies including Warner Bros. and Dreamworks, working in London, Vancouver and Valencia. I now take trips to the coast and wildlife reserves to paint beautiful birds and animals and illustrate for Derbyshire Ornithological Society Year Book and children’s books about Ospreys. I run local sketching birds sessions for free introducing people to sketching wildlife from life, therapeutic rigorous brain gym and a lovely way to reconnect with nature.
