Description
Precious metal silver clay - stud earring - half day workshop. Join us on this fabulous three hour, precious metal silver clay, stud earring workshop, where you will learn the process of making THREE pairs of stud earrings with precious metal silver clay, from start to finish. The front, decorative part of the earring will be made from silver clay, with the post and butterfly back made from sterling silver. You’ll learn how to shape the silver clay using moulds to create the decorative part of the earring, before drying and refining. You’ll then be shown how your jewellery is fired in the kiln, and a torch firing demonstration will take place, there may even be time for you to have a go at torch firing, if you fancy it! In the next part of the session you’ll learn basic soldering skills, and you’ll solder the ear posts onto each earring, then you’ll finish the session by polishing your earrings and work hardening the earrings posts, ready to wear your favourite pair home at the end of the workshop! Please note that your earrings will be kiln fired during the session, but depending upon the number of students on the day, there may be time for you to fire one pair of earrings using a torch, this however is not guaranteed. A torch firing demonstration will however take place during the session. What is precious metal silver clay? Precious metal silver clay is a truly magical material to work with! It is made up of millions of tiny particles of recycled silver, which is mixed with an organic binder and water, to make it into a material which can be easily shaped, moulded and textured, similar to pottery clay. Once fired, the binder burns away, resulting in a solid piece of silver! It is an exciting and addictive process, so be prepared to be hooked!
