Saturday small round willow basket (stake and strand) workshop with Debbie Hall of SalixArts
Description
A one-day workshop making small round baskets using a combination of Somerset willow and locally grown organic willow This workshop is suitable for all, but is aimed at beginners or those who have only just started their journey with willow weaving. Numbers are limited to just 4 participants so that you receive lots of individual attention. Everyone will be able to complete a small round fruit or bread basket without handles in a day. If you take to weaving quickly or have a little experience already you may be able to make something a bit bigger such as a wastepaper basket. Bed and breakfast at the cottage is now available. Please enquire if you're interested.
What's included in the price?
A simple, yummy vegetarian lunch and light refreshments are included in the price of £110, but materials are charged for at the end of the workshop depending on how much you actually use - to give you some idea, the willow cost for a smallish round basket would be about £10 -£12. Please remember to bring cash for this.

Yes - there is parking on the property.
We have a cat who does come in both the studio and house.
If you are allergic to cats, this is not a suitable workshop for you!
It is possible to get to the venue by public transport, but it might require a very early start! If you need to come by public transport you might find it less stressful to stay a night here in one of our B&B rooms either before or after the course (or both!)
From further afield:
By train and bus: The best way (most direct) is to get a train to Audley End Station and then a bus to Shudy Camps.
The only bus that will get you to Shudy Camps before our 10am start is the 319 which leaves Audley End Station at 08.35 (arriving Shudy Camps at 9.10). The last bus back leaves at 18.01.
Locally, from:
Saffron Walden: 319 bus
Haverhill: 19 or 319 buses
Cambridge: 13, 13A or X13 buses to Haverhill, then 19 or 319 buses
Yes. We do bed and breakfast at the cottage, and there are several room options. Please message for availability and prices. (There is a discount if you stay for more than one night).
If you want to stay with a partner who is not basketmaking, there are lots of nice walks and cycle routes nearby as well as plenty of great places to visit, including Saffron Walden (15 mins drive) Cambridge and Bury St. Edmunds (both 30 mins drive)
There are several nice pubs within 10 minutes drive for evening meals, in Bartlow, Helions Bumpstead and Linton
No. Materials are charged for at the end of the day, depending on how much you use.
This varies a lot depending on what you make. For example a lantern would only be £3 but a plant support might be £15.
If you are buying the course as a gift for someone else, you can arrange to pay for materials in advance by BACS by messaging me here. I can estimate costs and give change in cash on the day if they don't use all your 'budget'.
Yes. A yummy vegetarian lunch is included in the price, as are refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) throughout the day.
