Description
This course will be divided into four sessions. You will only need to select the first day when booking: 20/21/22/23 May (10am-4pm). 29/30/31 July & 1 Aug (10am-4pm). 25/26/27/28 Nov (10am-4pm). This pattern-making course teaches the fundamentals of creating patterns for bags and accessories, distinct from clothing. Over four consecutive classes, you will develop key skills for expanding industry knowledge or starting your own projects. You’ll learn pattern-making terminology, how to cut and prepare materials, and how to develop patterns based on shape and finishing techniques. You will also create glued prototypes using reinforcement materials to verify accuracy of the patterns you have drafted. The course covers simple gusset patterns, linings, seam allowances, cutting margins, and details like zippers, tabs and straps. You will gain insights into related techniques such as marking, cutting, gluing, and reinforcing, along with an overview of leathers, vegan alternatives, reinforcements and hardware. By the end, you will have a set of patterns, simple prototypes, and a curated list of leather suppliers and tools, plus handouts for ongoing reference. Summary of topics covered in the class: – Principles of pattern making and vocabulary for bags and accessories. – Analysis of main bag and accessory constructions. – Pattern making and development for two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. – Pattern making for simple linings, pockets, zip panels, handles, and other essential features. – Material cutting using patterns. – Assembling bag and accessory prototypes/mock-ups using reinforcement materials. By the end of the tuition, you will have: - Understood the principles of pattern drafting for accessory construction and created finished - patterns to take home with you. - Learned how to use patterns to accurately cut materials. Constructed and completed reinforcement prototypes to verify pattern accuracy. - Gained a basic understanding of the differences and best uses of leathers, vegan leathers, reinforcements, and hardware.

Their practical classes will teach you the fundamental techniques of working with leather or vegan leather, how to sew these materials to a professional standard and how to create customised goods. The theoretical classes will provide you with the foundation for designing bags and accessories as well as insights and essential information about the industry.
